Lockdown entertainment for equestrians

Over the past few weeks all sorts of things have been popping up online for equestrians, here are some of the ones we have seen, what is your favourite lockdown entertainment?

1. Eventing Manager app

This app is interactive and good fun, you have a set budget (£10m) to build your own eventing team of four people. The scores are then released on the set event date for each of the phases; dressage, showjumping and eventing. You then get placed on a leaderboard depending on how succesful your team is. The app is really easy to use and if you follow equiratings on instagram you can keep an eye on the live scores on their instagram story.

We are currently waiting for the scores to come in for the 3rd May competition for our team of riders, fingers crossed!

2. Virtual Eventing

With so many giveaways and awesome prizes up for grabs on the Virtual Eventing facebook page  you have probably already heard of this one! They are running a 5* virtual eventing class from the 6th-10th May, keep an eye on their facebook page for the latest updates and they have their very own live scoring platform . The whole event is being live-streamed and even the trot up promises to be ‘a trot up like you have never seen before’. Pammy Hutton is even in-charge of the dressage commentary!

3. Dressage Anywhere

British Dressage have said they don’t support online dressage competitions during COVID-19 so Dressage Anywhere have moved from ridden dressage to hobby horse dressage. Some of the videos uploaded are more amusing than others, it has certainly been an opportunity to find out more about the personalities of some of the well-known riders. Alice Oppenheimer’s videos made us laugh. Even Charlotte and Carl have got involved and there is now an online auction for a hobby horse made to look like Valegro. Last time we looked the auction had reached £2,000!

4. Mega-May Eventing Draw

This lockdown extravaganza has a huge 1st place prize of £5,000! The Mega May Eventing Draw begins on Wednesday 6th May with entries closing at 5pm! All entries will be randomly allocated a horse & rider. We were allocated rider Samantha Lissington with horse Ricker Ridge Rui. Each phase of the competition will be drawn daily by a different celebrity, it works just like badminton, trot up on the 6th, two days of dressage and then a cross-country day followed by showjumping. Entries are free but donations to the NHS are encouraged.
